Thank you for posting back.
To get the answer to this question, The average laptop battery is good for around 400 recharges cycles. After that, it starts to lose its capacity to hold a charge. This is about one and a half to three years of battery life for the average user. As the rechargeable battery begins to fail, the running time of the battery begins to decline.
Learn how to get the most service and life from your HP notebook battery by following these industry-wide suggested best practices.

Thanks for the information @Echo_Lake.
Both my HP Envy X360 laptops are new, purchased last month. The battery cycle count on my own laptop is just 6 cycles. The full capacity charge is shown as 3363mAh which is 97% of design capacity.
So, the battery is at 97% of capacity but the laptop is only delivering about 61% of the claimed 12.5hr battery life. I have the same problem on my wife's laptop which is identical.
Are there any other suggestions about what to do next?
Regards
Sam

Thank you for posting back.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Hard Reset: Follow steps from the link: https://hp.care/2GnkMa8. (do not skip any troubleshooting steps even if you feel steps are repeating)
BIOS default:
- Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
- Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
- On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
- Press F10 to Save and Exit.
- Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
- Follow the prompts to restart your computer. If the issue persists, follow the next steps.
Run hardware diagnostics test on battery and Charger:
Use the following steps to open the Component Tests menu.
- Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
- Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
- On the main menu, click Component Tests.
- The Component Tests menu displays. Your Component Tests menu might be different, depending on the components installed on your computer.
- To run both tests simultaneously, in the Component Tests menu, click Power Source, and then click Run once. Each component can also be tested individually.
AC Adapter Test:
The AC Adapter test provides an interactive test to determine if the AC power adapter is functioning properly. A good battery is required for this test. Before running the AC Adapter Test, HP recommends verifying that your computer can receive power by connecting a known working AC adapter.
Follow these steps to perform the AC Adapter Test.
- In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click an AC Adapter Test.
- Click Run once.
- The AC Adapter Test begins.
- When the test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen.
Battery Test:
Follow these steps to perform the Battery Test:
- In the Component Tests menu, click Power, and then click Battery.
- Click Run once. The Battery Test begins.
- When the battery test is complete, the results are displayed on the screen. For additional battery information, click Battery Details.
If the test passes, continue with these steps:
1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
2. Expand batteries.
3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
4. Shut down the computer.
5. Disconnect the charger.
6. Remove the battery.
7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
8. Insert the battery only.
9. Attempt to turn the battery on.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Echo_Lake,
I've taken the following actions as described:
- Performed a hard reset using the power button
- Entered BIOS setup, reset to defaults and saved
- Run diagnostic tests. Battery check showed "Primary - OK (1)". AC Adapter test showed "PASSED".
- Uninstalled the ACPI driver for the battery (it is not removable so I could not perform that step).
Battery life for the laptop is still the same. It is not coming anywhere close to 12.5 hours.
What are the next steps please?
Thanks
Sam

Hi all,
I have followed your diagnostic advice for the last 2 weeks. It seems that there is not much left to check, I will return the two laptops to the retailer and request replacement units since they are both unable to reach 12.5 hours.
Do I need a DOA number?
Regards
Sam

You have not followed my advice. Keep trying laptops and let us know when you find one with 12.5 hours of battery life. We here at the Forum have no ability to give you a return number. That is up to the retailer.

I have the same laptop purchased in Athens, Greece in November 2018.
From the very beginning I was disappointed with battery life.
I got it back to the official Retailer due to a constant Wi-fi connectivity problem and asked about the battery as well.
They checked it and it didn't seem to have any problem.
I also tried to contact with HP but I couldn't find a solution.
Imagine that your laptop's battery lasts up to 6,5 hours.
Mine not even 4.
