Hi,

My battery darains out despite being pluged in, shows '34% pluged in, discharging' and indeed discharging.

I already ran battery test severl times and the results are always 'Passed' (when charged at 5%, 20%, 76% or 95% , plugged in or not makes no difference), after positive test result you can never reach the stage/option of calibrarion...

I drained the battery until complete shutdown reached, then recharged for 4 hours to 96%, had few iterations but no change of becaviour.

I also let the battery drain from 96%  to 40% or 60% while working and then plugged it in, the battery starts to charge and reaches +10% or maybe +15% and then stop charging and starts draining out again.

In all the above scenarios the draining of the battery is at regular pace, I.e. no fast draining nor sudden sgutdowns...

I can't get more than 2-3 hours of work as I lose the battery and have to shutdown at some point to recharge since recharge doesn't work while working at the same time...

Any udeas?

Ofer Geva

Hi,

Tried removals of Battery controllers and restarts which made no impact.

Upgrading BIOS - I tried few times to understand how to do that, most of the times I rached dead-end with a message that I don't have any PREVIOUS version to go back to...

Having said the above, THE PROBLEM IS SOLVED 🙂
I heard at work that the IT guys solved a problem of nearly new laptop with  flat Battery that wouldn't start nor would charge.

The solution was simple:

1. Shutdown, unless was already shutdown

2. Rmove charger

3. Open the back cover of the laptop

4. Diconnect the Battery socket

5. Press the start button 60 seconds (possibly 10 seconds is enough but was frustrated and desperate 🙂 )
6. Waited 4-5 minutes to be on the safe side and for good luck...

7. Reconnect the Battery socket back

8. Put back the back cover of the laptop

9. Turn on the laptop

10. After 5 minutes of regular work, checked that Battery is working and doesn't drain abnormally, which was the case

11. At 40% charged level of Battery, added the charger and the Bettery started charging immediately up to 100% after some time

12. Tried different scenarios of adding and removing the charger at different charge levels, the Battery and charging both work perfectly OK

72 hours of work after the physical disconnect/reconnect of the Battery from the motherboeard, I can say that for now the problem disappeared.

Greetings @ofergeva,

Thanks for the post and Welcome to HP Forums.

I understand that the battery is not charging even though the power adapter is connected, is that right?

Kudos to you for trying to troubleshoot the issue on your own.

Not to worry, I will be glad to assist you.

Have you made any hardware changes on your computer?

Are you using the power adapter that came with the computer?

Have you run a power adapter test?

Run HP Support Assistant on your computer to update BIOS, Chipset, and other drivers on your computer. Click here

Once all the drivers are updated and if the issue persists, open device manager by doing a right-click on the Windows button.

Expand batteries in device manager.

Uninstall all the battery controllers listed there.

Restart your computer and a new battery controller will be automatically installed.

This should resolve the issue you are facing.

If possible, run a component test on the power adapter and battery after updating the drivers and BIOS. Click here
