HP Notebook 15-r203TX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

A day before yesterday my screen would either go black(flickering) when I change the position of screen, or will go to sleep on its own. So I did a shut down of my laptop and removed the battery and installed it again. After assembling the laptop, it would not start at all. Not even when plugged in to AC mains, it wouldn't show the charging LED or anything. It was dead. I figured it must be hardware issue with wire of the LCD screen of laptop and turns out that when I remove the LCD screen wire from motherboard, the laptop would start normally but if I plug the LCD wire, it would not start at all. So I brought my laptop to repair center but surprisingly when booted it worked perfectly. He did some tests and said that it is working just fine. Next day my laptop battery stopped charging at 48%. It wouldn't charge any further. I did component test on HP (with plugged in) and it showed me FAILURE ID : GU1JK3-79N9PW-XD7V6K-C09V03 When I did the battery component test after disconnecting it from AC mains, it said the battery health is ok. I cannot figure out what is the cause of the problem. I also left my laptop to charge overnight but still stuck at 48%. So I replaced my battery into my friend's HP Notebook, same model. Here the battery charged perfectly in his laptop, but the battery won't start in my laptop. I cannot understand the issue. I did update BIOS, battery drivers as well tried charging my laptop with another adapter. Nothing works. I would like to say that my laptop works perfectly when plugged in without battery. PLEASE HELP!

Were it me, I would be suspicious of that battery.

Notebook introduced Jan 2015

If this is the original battery, it is likely in need of replacement in spite of the results of having installed it into a friend's computer.

If you have not already done so, you could try recalibration.

Battery seems “stuck” in a particular charge setting

The battery might be OK and just need calibration (balance / set).

The steps to check / calibrate / replace the battery are included in this document:

If you decide to replace the battery, the Part Number and super easy replacement procedure is in the service guide:

Before disassembling the computer, follow these steps:

  1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system.
  1. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer.
  2. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer.

To remove the battery:

  1. Position the computer upside down on a flat surface.
  2. Slide the battery lock latch (1), and then slide the battery release latch (2) to release the battery.
  3. Remove the battery from the computer (3).

Hi, @Dragon-Fur

I did another test to make sure the problem is with my battery. I got the battery from my friend and tried charging in my laptop. I did the battery check through HP PC Diagnostics and the results were positive. Intially, the replaced battery did charge from 89% to 91% and "stuck" there.

Again, when I did my battery test, it said Logic :ok Charge state : Blown fuse. Failure ID : GU1JK3-8LK9Q7-XD7V6K-C0B613

I did multiple tests, after this test, and in few of them(2 or 3 test) the battery charge state was ok, and as "BLown Fuse" most of the times.

Now, I am more worried. Did I damage my friend's battery as well. Is there another hardware issue with my laptop?

There are limited testing options.

The code translates to

GU1JK3-8LK9Q7-XD7V6K-C0B613OKxxxxxxxx9/20/19601PowerAC Adaptor, Battery, Cache Battery Pack, Charger, Power Cord, Power SupplyBattery 1

At the least, it is likely not worth continuing to test and retest a component that is failing.

I cannot answer whether you have damaged your friend's battery.  I would guess it is possible to have done so if your computer's charging system (onboard electrics, charging adapter) is contributing to the problem.   It is possible that the friend's battery is not-in-perfect-condition in the first place.  ??

The following is the information I usually include for this sort of issue.

Battery does not charge when system is warm to hot

If the “not charging” issue is (only) apparent when the system is running hot (or near that point), the battery and charge system are likely overheated as well – the charge system will resume operation when the computer cools down.  Short Version:  An overheated battery / computer / charging-system will not charge the battery – this is normal behavior.
