My laptop (Hp 14s-fq2002)

The laptop is able to detect the charger (white LED near the charging port lights up), but it does not charge the battery while the laptop is powered on. The battery icon in Windows does not show any charging indicator, and the battery percentage does not increase.

However, if I shut down the laptop completely, the battery charges normally. Once I power the laptop back on, the charging stops again.

I have already tried the following steps, but the issue persists:

  • EC (Embedded Controller) reset (holding power button for 30 seconds)

  • BIOS recovery (Win + B key during startup)

  • BIOS is up to date

  • Checked HP Support site — no newer BIOS version available

  • Windows doesn't even reports that it's “Plugged in, not charging” when it detects the adapter.

Please advise on how I can proceed with diagnosing or repairing this issue. If a replacement part is needed, I would appreciate help identifying the correct DC-in board or power module for this laptop model.

@Joe-1213_, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check the Charger

Test with another charger: Try a different charger to make sure yours isn’t faulty.

Check wattage: Ensure your charger matches the required wattage for your laptop.

Power Reset

Turn off the laptop, unplug the charger, and remove the battery (if removable).

Hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain all power.

Reconnect everything and turn the laptop on.

Reinstall Battery Drivers

Go to Device Manager > Batteries > Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.

Right-click it and choose Uninstall, then restart your laptop.

Update BIOS & Drivers

Check for any BIOS updates and install them from the HP support site.

Update power-related drivers through Device Manager.

Check Battery Health

Run the battery report: Open Command Prompt and type powercfg /batteryreport.

Check if the battery health is good or if there are any issues.

Run HP Diagnostics

Press Esc when the laptop is off and select F2 to run the diagnostics, then run a Battery Test.

Check for Hardware Issues

Inspect the charging port and battery for any visible damage.

If the battery test fails, it might need replacing.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
