Solved!

Battery not charging

HP Recommended
Pavilion dv8
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Battery icon in system tray shows 8% available (plugged in, not charging).  how do I get the battery to charge or do I need a new battery?

You should test the battery first before replacing. Read this support document:

Hi @amsilver,

Try running the battery test and see what it reports.  See Testing and Calibrating the Battery.  That PC is certainly old enough for the battery to have worn out at this point, see Purchasing a Replacement Battery.
