HP Notebook - 15-bs662tu
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My notebook does not power up on battery. It only works on external power supply. When windows boot up, it shows 100% battery remaining but when i unplug the charger it gets shut down immediately.

Hp support Assistant also shows that battery is 100% charged but its unable to detect the battery !! How's that possible.

I already updated the system BIOS to latest version, and also tried to replace the battery and charger with new ones but its showing exactly same symptoms. I think the problem is related to motherboard.

Any thoughts ?

@FTCS, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Perform a hard reset

  1. Unplug the AC adapter from the notebook PC and remove the PC from any port replicator or docking station.

  2. Replacing the Battery from the notebook battery compartment.

  3. Press and hold down the power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.

  4. Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the notebook PC.

  5. Press the power button to turn on the notebook PC.

  6. Use the arrow keys to highlight Start Windows Normally and then press the enter key.

If the battery is still not detected, try resetting the BIOS to default

To reset the BIOS defaults, follow the steps below.

  1. Press the power button to turn on the notebook and repeatedly press f10 to enter the BIOS setup.

  2. Navigate through the BIOS and select the option to restore the BIOS defaults. The option will be called Restore Defaults or Setup Defaults, or something similar.

  3. Confirm that you want to restore the BIOS defaults, and then select the option to save and exit the BIOS setup.

Let us run a test on the hardware components of the PC

1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.

2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.

3. Perform System Test > Extensive test.

If the tests pass, run component test > Power. Share the result on your next post.

Also, you may test and calibrate the battery. Click here to know how.

Let me know how this goes.

Already performed all the above steps almost 10 times as instructed by Hp's technical support on phone and whatsapp.

Performed hard reset (same symptoms)

Reset the BIOS defaults / Updated the BIOS to latest version (same symptoms)

Hardware component tests/ Power Test / Battery Test

All tests passed except battery

The MOST NOTICEABLE thing here is that same battery is working fine and giving 3 hour backup, when i put it in other notebook.

Only this notebook is not working on any battery, as i already tried to check with a NEW battery. It does not power up on any battery.

I called your technical support team again.

After repeating the same steps on phone for almost 45 minutes, he told me that i have to do recovery of windows operating system. 😂

what OS has to do with battery ??? My notebook is not powering up on battery !

IT SHOULD AT-LEAST POWER UP, EVEN WITHOUT OPERATING SYSTEM. It is a common sense !

I understand. I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
