Hi... my laptop charges ok but after I shutdown the laptop it doesn’t hold charge so when I restart it the laptop only lasts a couple of mins then it try’s to go into sleep mode, and needs power cable. Wondering if some processes are still active even though laptop has shutdown. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be. Many thanks...

Hi @AJS30
Your HP Envy 13-d053sa came to market in 2015 and we are in 2020. That means that your battery is four to five years old.
I would not be surprised if you battery no longer charges. There is a finite number of charge/discharge cycles a notebook Lion is capable of. Your notebook has more than likely reach near that limit.
Your battery needs to be replaced with a new one. You can try to run the battery test in the HP Support Assistant or the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics, but the battery probably won't even complete the test if it at or near the end of its service life.
Here is the description and Part Number.
Battery - 3-cell 45WH 3.83Ah LI (VR03045XL-PL) HP p/n 816238-850

Thanks for your reply. Should have mentioned in my post that changed the battery circa 12 months ago. Have also run the hp battery diagnostic a few times and it says battery is ok... so I believe battery should be fine. That’s why very strange battery never lasts when turn machine back on... Thanks...

Did the battery you bought come with a one year warranty?
If it is still in warranty, contact the vendor for an RMA and replacement battery.
It is possible that the power adapter is no longer working as it should. Take a close inspection of the connector where you plug into the notebook for charging. Is the pin dark and discolored?
Have you used the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to test the power adapter and run the system tests?

@AJS30 wrote:Hi... yes have used hi diagnostics to do system check plus test power supply... all tested ok... thanks
Have you generated a Windows Battery Report to see how the battery is actually performing?
I wrote an article for the Laptop Knowledge Base that describes how it can be done.
