Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

3 months ago i started this thread where i decribed the problem i had with my laptop: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Battery-stops-charging-after-f...

To sum up: the original battery died, i bought a replacement battery but they were working fine for like few days and then - boom - the pre-boot UEFI environment scan shows that battery needs a replacement even tough a day ago it was perfectly fine.

I was told to buy a new one - and i actually did it. Since then, i tried 4 different batteries - and with every single one of them, i had the same issue! Which is - it works fine for about a day but the day after my laptop just declines to charge the battery, the white light near the charging port is blinking and pre-boot UEFI environment shows that battery needs a replacement. I am pretty sure that there must be something wrong with my laptop - because as i said ive tried with 4 different batteries, and i had an exact same problem. Is there any way to find a cause of this problem and, hopefully, solve it?

Hi @archetyp

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you with the replacement battery.

You may order the replacement parts on the HP Parts Store, use the HP Parts Surfer to find the part number and If you've already looked for it and couldn't find it on the HP Parts Store, you may want to get it locally at the online store such as Amazon or eBay, etc...as the part numbers are universal.

Alternatively, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options". Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from, here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi @Praveenbv, thanks for your feedback but i dont want to replace the battery now since - as you can read in my post - i have already done it a few times (as adivsed a few months ago by @Huffer) and i keep on having the same error. Is there any way to fix diagnose the cause of it?

Hi@archetyp,

Check for BIOS update

Please find Link to update the BIOS.

You can try updating the drivers on your PC using an HP support assistant.

Refer to this article to know more information about using HP support assistants.

I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:

1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for minute and then put it back in.

😎 When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Step 2 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open Windows Updates.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type, and open HP Support Assistant.

2) Check for updates.

3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.
