A little over a year ago my track pad stopped depressing normally. I assumed it was dirt build up or something, since then the pad has started to lift up gradually. It recently got so high that the screen rested on the pad when the notebook is closed. It turned out that the battery is severely swollen and was pushing the track pad up and out.
This seems pretty dangerous, and this computer is only a couple of years old. While it is out of warranty, a battery going bad like this seems strange. Anyone else have similar problems with this model?

Hi,
It should not be dangerous unless the battery is actually punctured. Take a look at this document:
https://support.hp.com/hk-en/document/c05151476
The part number for the battery is 902499-856 and you can try performing an online search with part number to find an original or compatible part.
On page 23 of service manual you can see the the steps to replace the battery.

I have also flagged the post so maybe someone will intervene.
Hope it helps,
David
