HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg1000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

The battery shows only 99%.  It won't charge to 100% even when plugged in for hours and it won't fall below 99% even when I play a fairly high usage game for an hour without it being plugged in.

I've already tried uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and restarting

I've also tried turning off and leaving it plugged in to what must be a full charge and restarting

I've also tried running HP Support Assistant and running the battery check (99%, not charging, Normal)

I've also tried the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows Device Check Power Battery Check

I've also tried running the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) which says the battery is fine and remaining capacity: 41 WHr 99% when I ran the power tests (when I look at details) and says Battery Check : Primary-OK (1) Primary: Logic State - No AC Power (1), Charge State - Not Available

The cycle count is 1 if that makes a difference.

Hi @profilek,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you've already performed several troubleshooting steps for your HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15 regarding the battery issue. Since the problem persists, here are a few additional steps you can try.

BIOS Update: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS is up to date. Sometimes, BIOS updates can address battery management issues.

Power Reset: Try a power reset by shutting down your laptop, unplugging the AC adapter, and then holding down the power button for about 15-20 seconds. After that, plug in the AC adapter and start your laptop to see if the battery percentage changes.

Battery Calibration: Sometimes, calibrating the battery can help reset the battery gauge. To do this:

  • Charge your laptop to 100%.
  • Keep the laptop plugged in for at least two hours after reaching 100%.
  • Use your laptop normally while it is still plugged in.
  • Unplug the laptop and let it drain completely until it shuts down.
  • Leave it off for at least five hours.
  • Plug the laptop back in and charge it to 100% without turning it on.

Check Power Settings: Ensure that your power settings are not limiting the battery charge. Sometimes, there are settings that prevent the battery from charging fully to extend its lifespan.

Hardware Check: If possible, try using a different charger to rule out any issues with the charger itself.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, it might indicate a deeper hardware problem with the battery or charging circuitry.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
