Pavilion 15cw1011na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I bought my notebook only two months ago or so. Since then I have had a few issues such as the microphone not working properly and my it not picking up any sounds, though that's irrelevant at the moment... The adapter is connected around the back of my desk and never moved and I just unplug the laptop whenever I see it has fully charged (or just under as I read that it is best to let it charge less than 100%). The laptop itself barely ever gets moved so it's not like there is a chance that either the laptop or adapter have gotten damaged in any way physically...

I plugged my laptop in tonight as the low battery message came up when it was 12%. I plugged in immediately but 2 minutes later the message popped up again (even though the charger icon appeared on the battery and the light where you plug the adapter in came on... I unplugged and plugged back in and it still looked the same with the battery icon saying "plugged in" but the battery had gone down to 9%.... I continued to use my laptop to see if it would charge but it went down to 4% within the next minute and died (I would like to point out at this stage I wasn't even using my laptop as I was testing the battery, there was nothing that could have been draining it...) I turned the laptop back on but it seemed to be stuck on 2% and not move up or down.

I ran a diagnostic on the battery using the assistant and also followed the instructions on HP website to run diagnostic on the adapter and both have passed the tests so there is nothing wrong with them... It seems to be charging at a normal pace when off but really really slowly when on... (though at least it is charging now).

The laptop is only 2 months old and I'm already quite frustrated with how faulty it seems to be... I am worried that it won't charge properly tomorrow and I need it for work for the rest of the week. I don't want to leave it plugged in when the battery is full as I know that damages the battery...

Does any one know how to fix this issue? Or what might be causing it at all?

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
I appreciate your efforts to try and resolve the issue. I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:

  • 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
  • 2. Expand batteries.
  • 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
  • 4. Shut down the computer.
  • 5. Disconnect the charger.
  • 6. Remove the battery.
  • 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
  • 8. Insert the battery only.
  • 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
