Is it safe to use laptop plugged in without the battery?

Hi,
Yes, it is safe.
If you do wish to do this ( and you have a reliable mains supply ) drain the battery to around 40% charge, then remove it and store it in a cool location.
Then, once a month, re-insert the battery, start the machine and let the battery fully charge. Unplug the AC Adapter and let the machine run until you start to get a 'low battery' warning. Fully charge it again, then let the battery drain to around 40%. Shut down the notebook, remove the battery and store it separately in a cool location. Repeating this procedure every month will help to keep your battery in good condition.
