HP Pavilion 15-au063cl
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The battery in this computer will no longer charge. It failed the HP diagnostic battery check. I replaced this battery once already Oct 2018. Is there something else that could be causing the battery to stop holding a charge? Should I try replacing it again?

Thanks for the suggestion but already tried that. Everything is updated.

What was the error code you got when it failed battery check?

This could be an issue with the charger or the battery connector as well. Use an alternate adapter to check if that works fine.

Meanwhile, reinstall the battery drivers using the below steps:

Unplug the charge, Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager:

1) In the search box, type and open “Device Manager”.

2) Expand “Batteries”.

3) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

4) Click on “Uninstall”.

5) At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

6) Shutdown the computer.

7) Remove the battery for a minute and then put it back in. (Skip this step if you have a non removable battery)

8 - When the computer comes back up it should automatically find the driver.

9) Go to Device Manager.

10) Expand Batteries.

11) Right-click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there.

12) Click "Search automatically for updated driver software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

If the issue persists, run a battery and adapter test using the steps mentioned in this link: Click here

In case anyone else comes across this here is what happened to me.  Battery said "not charging" but laptop worked on AC.

Ran the check in the Support Assistant and it said battery had failed - buy a new one.

Ran the diagnostics check at startup and it said battery had failed.

Removed battery, cleaned the contacts on battery and laptop (using Ambersil Ambertron contact cleaner to wet a small brush).

Replaced battery and everything is now fine.  Battery charges, Support Assistant says it's fine etc etc.

Quite a few posts say remove battery and then replace it which could do the same obviously depending how grubby the contacts are.

Moral of it all is - clean first - buy second!
