Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Here is a warning to those who want to get intel optane in their laptop.

As soon as I got the laptop and set up the windows, it kept on crashing saying it can't detect the device and taking to the blue screen right on start up.  I was told to reinstall the windows and I tried that several times with exactly the same result.

When I brought the unit to the hp service center, after 2 weeks they "repaired it" by simply removing the intel optane.  The dumbest thing is that I had suggested to them that I suspected intel optane was the cause of the problem and that I would pay them to sell and install an SSD.  And if that's not possible, I would buy one and bring it to them to install.  I told them 4 times but they kept on insisting monitoring the laptop.

Here's my complaint:  Simply removing optane and just installing windows on the hdd is clearly a downgrade especially given the fact the the optane was factory installed.  If I wanted a slow notebook, I would not have ordered one with an i8 processor.  That's not what I call a "repair".

And even my 15z with ryzen 7 came with a broken display which took them 2 weeks to diagnose (I guess just looking at it takes that long) and told me they needed to swap out the display.  But since I'm on a long business trip out in Asia, they first told me they would swap the screen but one week later told me to pick it up and bring it to the US.  The take away for me is that:

1.  I bought 2 notebooks which all came with factory defects.  That's at least for me 100% defect rate on these products.

2.  If it takes the service center 2 weeks just to realize that there are visible lines going across the screen, they might want to hire people who are not borderline blind to assess the matters.

3.  If they think taking out factory installed parts and calling that a repair, I don't think they really grasp what concept of repair.  I'm glad they just didn't pull out the display screen and called it a repair.

Please let me know if anyone is having similar issues with their Envy 15 x360.  I had been telling folks not to buy them unless they can throughly test the unit before they purchase.

After 2 weeks at the service center, they could not fix the problem of windows not starting after a re-install.  So they told me they fixed it by removing the intel optane altogether and just installing windows on hdd.  I asked what the hell would I do with the optane, and they told me I could just keep it.

First, optane is garbage from my exprience.  Second, the service is a joke.  I told them I would pay extra for them to install a proper ssd instead of factory installed optane, they told me that was not an option.  I also suggest I could just bring them an SSD for them and they told me to pretty much piss off.

The only acceptable solution for them is to remove the intel optane and just re-installing windows on the hdd.  I just got this unit (along with 15z which had defective screen).  in 2018, I didn't plan on using hdd as my main windows driver.  Sure optane isn't really up there with an ssd but I thought it struck a fair balance between speed and storage capacity.

But HP told me we would just take out the factory installed part and call it a day.

Since both my units were defective and could not be used, I asked hp if there's anything they can do for me.  They told me to go buy a new one at a local hp store.  Ha!

I just took one in my rear, shelled out for a new Dell XPS (which kinda hurts given how I just had purchased 2 brand new HP envies).  At least the new Dell didn't have any defects or crashes so far.
