Welcome to the HP Community --

The "sensor" you see on the keyboard might be nothing more than a cover plate where the sensor would be installed.

What?

The fingerprint sensor is an OPTION -- not every computer in the series has a fingerprint sensor.

Open

Maintenance and Service Guide

Pages 14-15

Available as an option means you can usually purchase and install the part in your computer.

See Pages 55-56 for part number(s) and installation procedure

Where to check

If there is a working fingerprint sensor installed, the Device Manager will detect it.

Control Panel > icon view > Device Manager

Tab View

Check Show hidden devices

Select Devices by Type

Expand Category (for example Biometric Devices)

Right-Click on the Driver > Select / open Properties

Tab Driver

Compare Driver version to the driver listed in system's support page Category Software and Drivers

Example - Device Manager - Biometrics and IR Camera

Device_Manager_Biometrics_Camera_1Device_Manager_Biometrics_Camera_1

What about...

If you get to the point where you need a driver (having installed the hardware):

ELAN Fingerprint Sensor Driver

Hi, thanks for your time but i checked the Device manager and there is no catagory for biometrics at all, so that  means, the "Sensor" look alike is nothing but a piece of metal, i was just wondering if it was blocked or not, by my administrator, but seems like not, thanks though for your time

You are welcome.

Sorry for the confusion.

If the Device Manager does not detect the fingerprint reader, then as far as the system knows, there is no fingerprint reader sensor installed inside the machine.

Check the original invoice -- fingerprint reader is an option - the feature must have been purchased.

Blocked?

Maybe --
