Dear all,
By the end of 2023 my battery blew up and I replaced it with a new one, purchased from a German webshop and made in China.
Ever since I have frequently received a blue screen of death. Reboot would then (often but not always) result either in a new BSOD or a message that says 'Hard disk not found'. Another message I frequently received was 'Critical_process_died', which was shown on the BSOD.
When the laptop is 'asleep', an attempt to restart would also often result in another BSOD.
I found that when I installed a new update, the issue often subsided for a while only to come back to the surface after some time. I guess it is obvious that the new battery is the root cause of my problem, but I am interested to hear your thoughts.
Thank you.

@JorikV, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it must be to deal with recurring BSODs and boot issues, especially after replacing your battery. Let's go through a few steps to help isolate and resolve the issue.
Based on your description, the issue could stem from:
- Improper battery installation or compatibility issues
- Loose or damaged internal connections (especially affecting the SSD)
- Corrupted system files or drivers
- Power management conflicts introduced by the new battery
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
Check Battery and SSD Connections
Since the issue started after a battery replacement:
- Power off the laptop completely.
- Open the back panel (if you're comfortable doing so).
- Ensure the battery connector and SSD are securely seated.
- Look for any signs of damage or swelling.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
HP provides built-in diagnostics to check for hardware issues:
- Turn off the laptop.
- Press Esc repeatedly, then F2 to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
- Run the System Tests, especially:
- Battery Test
- Hard Drive Test
- Memory Test
Update BIOS and Drivers
Outdated firmware can cause power and boot issues:
- Visit the HP Spectre x360 15-ch015nd Drivers Page
- Download and install:
- Latest BIOS
- Chipset drivers
- Storage drivers
Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can conflict with power states:
- Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do
- Click Change settings that are currently unavailable
- Uncheck Turn on fast startup
- Save changes and reboot
Check for System File Corruption
Run these commands in Command Prompt (Admin):
These will scan and repair corrupted system files.
Consider a Clean Windows Installation
If the issue persists, a clean install of Windows 11 may help eliminate software conflicts. Be sure to back up your data first.
