Pavilion - 14-ce3501na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey,

I bought a laptop 2 days ago (Pavilion - 14-ce3501na) and I've noticed the battery drains way too fast plus while charging the laptop lags every now and then which is weird.

There's barely any software installed and I only use Google Chome with 3-5 tabs opened, no video or music. The battery is supposed to last +10 hours, and this is what I've got so far:
100% to 10% in 2.5 hours - HP Recommend - Balanced
100% to 10% in 3.5 hours - HP Recommend - Best Battery Life (Low Brightness, Browser only)

While I was looking for solutions I tried these steps ...
-I updated the bios (via Device Manager) and checked on HP Support Assistant. There's no new update.
-Windows Update is also updated.

-Tried draining the battery down to 0%, recharging up to 100% again (while turned off) and no difference.
-Component Tests for pretty much everything twice and I got 2 warning messages, one for Video Memory and the other for Power Source (just once), everything else seems ok ("PASSED").

PS: The fan also seems to go quite loud from time to time (for long periods of time), even when I'm not even using or browsing anything.

Thank you,

@dancavs Welcome to HP Community!

here's how your battery life works:

Watching movies, playing graphics-intensive games, decoding the human genome, and keeping your screen on full brightness for a long period of time can all drain your battery quickly.

The biggest offenders would probably be graphics or LCD related applications, look at the graph below for details:

That said, I've listed a series of steps that should help your cause in improving battery performance:

  • Video about improving your notebook battery performance

  • How long does a notebook battery last?

  • Adjusting notebook battery power plans

  • Factors that contribute to loss of notebook battery capacity

  • Recommended notebook battery care practices

  • Original battery charges slowly, replacement battery charges normally

  • Special recommendations for embedded (not customer replaceable) notebook batteries

  • Tips for conserving notebook battery power

Well, thanks for the info but I know how a battery works, not being rude or anything but I did work with tech support for a few years. I'm just saying that this is not normal for a brand new laptop.

I know I should not expect the +10 hours it was supposed to last but I would be honestly happy if it lasted at least half of it.

I did return the laptop yesterday for another brand new one (same model) but the problem persists... This time I haven't installed a single software, just updated whatever came with the laptop (Windows Update, Intel Update, HP Update). Using Edge with 1-2 tabs opened and 50% brightness in the BATTERY SAVER ON mode...

Manually changed some settings on the ADVANCED POWER SETTINGS to optimize for the best battery life but no difference.

It devours about 25%-30% every hour... Not even 4 hours with no software installed, no music, no video... In component tests it says the battery needs to be Calibrated, I calibrated 3 times (each time takes about 3-4 hours) and nothing... It keeps asking to calibrate. But using HP Support Assistant it shows the battery is OK.

The fan is also so loud and working at full speed even with not a single process running on the background, and it happens 80% of the time. CoolSense is ON and I did pretty much every test I could find on this community, but couldn't find anything that could help me with either the battery and the fan.

I also noticed that while charging (when not fully charged) you can notice a drop in performance.

The performance overall is amazing, really fast, great sound/audio, screen... but the battery and fan are super annoying.

Looking forward to hearing from you guys...

@dancavs Just to confirm, have you gone through the steps mentioned in the links I had shared earlier? Here they are again, just in case you missed it:

For more details, Click here (To improve battery performance)

And to resolve issues with the fan noise: Click here

If you've done all of the above in the new laptop as well and yet the issue persists, I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options, follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - http://www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on Sign-in or select the product using the below step:

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.

If you wish to thank me for my efforts, you could click on "Accept as solution" on my post as the solution should help others too.
