Hi, this issue started after the warranty expired. This brightness(brighter) key is not responding to me when I press it, but it will spam(most of the time) and then stop after a while. I have updated my laptop to the latest version. May I know if this is a hardware issue? Do I need to change the entire keyboard? What steps to take? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the HP Support Community. 

From what I have understood, the brightness key is not working on your system. Do not worry, we are here to help you with it. 

 

I would suggest you press the brightness key with the Fn function key. Fn+F2. Let me know how it goes. it

 

First, try restarting your graphics driver:
Press Windows key + Ctrl + Shift + B

If that does not work...

Press Windows key + X
Click Device Manager
Expand Display adapters
Right click the current display adapter
Click Properties
Click Driver tab
Click Rollback driver if the option is available

If not
Right click the current display adapter
Click Uninstall
Check the box that says, "Delete the driver software for this device.”
Exit Device Manager
Restart

Go to Start -> Settings -> Update & security, then Check for updates and install any available updates.

You might need to update the display driver from the manufacturer of the website of your computer.

Hello @Nirvana_95, sorry for the late reply. I will try and let you know if it works the next few days. It’s is my f3 brightness key that is not physically responding. The main concern here is it will spam to the max brightness which it hurts my eyes. It happened quite often, now it has stopped after trying some of the steps you suggested. Thank you. I’ll keep u updated. 🙂

I have tried all your suggested solutions. Unfortunately non of it works for me. The problem persisted after awhile. It continues to spam(f3) even though I tried to dimmer by pressing the f2. Hope to heard from you soon. Cheers.

Thanks for performing the steps and sharing the information.

 

Try following and let me know the outcome.

1. Run Keyboard Troubleshooter
Type Troubleshoot in Windows Start Search box > Click Troubleshoot > Scroll down and click Keyboard > Run the troubleshooter > Follow onscreen directions

2. Uninstall Keyboard Driver
Windows Key+X (Or right click on Start) > Click Device Manager > Expand Keyboards > Right click on Standard PS/2 Keyboard > Uninstall > Reboot the computer to reinstall
