Hi,

Yesterday my laptop was working perfectly but today when I try to open it, it feels like the laptop jams and I can feel it straining and it looks like the screen would split if I forced it open. I think the problem is with the right hinge.

According to the HP website the warranty expired, however I bought it from another website last December, and I'm still within 12 months, so warranty is still valid there for another few days. I know the problem is a common design fault from googling. What should I do? I'd really like to keep my data. Should I try and force the laptop open and risk damaging it, or should I remove the harddrive before sending it back for investigation?

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.
