My husband, who is an attorney, and not a college kid throwing his laptop hither and yon, just showed me his laptop hinges. The right hinge had been "temperamental" for a while, maybe a year? and had to be gently closed because it would "pop" out of place. Now, the *left* hinge is completely crunched, with tiny screws and bits of broken plastic falling out. The outside edge is so twisted he can't even plug in the charger now. The laptop won't even open more than a few inches now, either. This is a laptop that was never dropped or abused in any way, and was actually purchased when we were in quarantine and my husband started working from home, so it never left the house (even though it has a nice padded case to travel in!)
We are both disgusted beyond belief, esp. after seeing that this is *not* a problem unique to us. We live on Staten Island, and would have to travel to Brooklyn or Manhattan to go to the nearest ubreakifix, and the prices other people were quoted ($200-300) are *insane* for a laptop that cost $479 in the first place.
In addition, this laptop is used by my husband for his work as an attorney, and he is not going to leave it overnight or mail it to anyone. It needs to be repaired in front of him...people's private legal business would be at risk otherwise. At any rate, we are *not* even bothering with opening a support ticket with HP; having read about the merry-go-round of uselessness other people have gone through, we are going straight to the top.
