Broken keyboard key cap

HP Pavilion Laptop model 15-cs0xxx, Product Number: 4EY55UA#ABA

 

The cap on my "down arrow" key appears to be broken one one side. While the right side appears to be attached, the left side "pops-up" and, if you carefully lift it, the cap can stand-up vertically while the right side remains attached. Looking at the underside of the cap, I see a small tab at the top of the cap but no similar tab at the bottom.

 

For some time, this cap would come loose and I was able to press it down to snap it back in place. Now it won't snap down anymore. 

 

What do I do?

In terms of one faulty key, I'm sorry, but there is nothing you can do to address just that.

 

Neither HP nor anyone else sells individual keys for laptop keyboards, so there's no way to replace just that.

 

You have buy an entire keyboard and with newer laptops, replacing that is a major and risky undertaking -- something I would advise against doing on your own. You could easily be looking at a couple of hundred dollars of work, not including the price of a new keyboard.

 

If this laptop is still under warranty, then your best bet is to contact HP Support to make arrangements to get the keyboard replaced under warranty -- but be aware that HP might have the laptop for WEEKS in order to do this.

 

HP does not provide links for phone support in the US because of Scammers that were harvesting those numbers, calling customers, and charging them money for services they did not need.

To get a phone number, you have to go to the HP site listed below, create a support case, and after that, HP will provide contact information, possibly including a phone number. That link is not going to let you create a support ticket if your warranty has expired -- because HP does not provide phone support outside of the warranty period.
