Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a 17 inch notebook, way out of warranty but still great and very functional. I was using it today and the left hinge cracked wide open, and now the laptop won't close, and it is impacting how the battery is seated .It's pretty clear that this is a widely known issue, but is there any fix so I can keep using my laptop?  I can't afford to replace it right now, especially since it's perfectly usable with the exception of the hinge.
