I purchased my laptop in March 2024, and about three months into using it, I began experiencing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors. From what I recall, the issue started after I performed a BIOS update in June 2024. Despite this, I really love the laptop. I use it daily for remote work, so reliability is extremely important to me.
Around six months after purchase, HP Tech Support advised me to uninstall and reinstall Windows 11. Before doing so, I upgraded the RAM to 32GB and replaced the SSD, initially thinking the problem was due to a faulty drive. After reinstalling Windows 11, everything ran smoothly—no BSOD—until May 2025, when I updated the BIOS again. That’s when the issue resurfaced.
Unfortunately, by that time, the HP warranty had expired. I tried using my warranty through Best Buy, but they told me they couldn't assist unless I paid an additional $85 on top of the $179.99 already charged to my card. I decided not to go that route.
Reinstalling software each time this happens is becoming increasingly tedious, especially since I need my workplace to reinstall their proprietary tools every time. I'm willing to send the laptop in for service if the issue is still considered ongoing, as this has been a persistent problem since I first contacted HP.
The BSOD error shows "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" and usually occurs while I'm working remotely. The laptop crashes, restarts, and then typically runs fine for the rest of the day—but recently, it's been happening daily.
I’m on the verge of buying a new computer, but I haven’t found one that compares. I genuinely love this laptop—the performance, the display, the overall design—everything about it is great, except for this persistent issue.
Here are the current specs:
1TB SSD
32GB RAM DDR5
17.2” Display
Windows 11 Home (64-bit)
Intel Core Ultra 7 155H
Is there anyone who can help resolve this?

@kristyp, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Update All Drivers from HP Support Assistant
Download and run HP Support Assistant. HP Support Assistant | HP® Support.
Use it to manually install chipset, Intel Management Engine Interface (IMEI), and Intel Rapid Storage Technology (RST) drivers.
Pay special attention to the Intel Serial IO and Intel DPTF (Dynamic Platform Thermal Framework) drivers—they are known to cause power state BSODs if mismatched with BIOS.
Set Power Profile to "Balanced"
Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Power Mode and set it to Balanced.
Check Device Manager for Hidden Sleep-Related Conflicts
Open Device Manager > View > Show hidden devices.
Expand System Devices and check for:
Intel Management Engine Interface → Right-click > Properties > Power Management tab > Uncheck “Allow computer to turn off device to save power.”
Do the same for your Wi-Fi and Bluetooth adapters under Network Adapters.
Reference: HP PCs - Error messages are displayed on a blue screen (Windows 11, 10) | HP® Support
I hope this helps.
