I changed a specific software that I use and the new one requires the time to be accurate to within 30 seconds to properly function. Well, I started having problems wit h clock never being accurate which tells me there is a failed CMOS battery.
The laptop being out of warranty I figured I would just change it out myself. Imagine my surprise when I open the back of the case to find... nothing. No CMOS battery and no connector, but the soldering pads where the connector should go are present.
All repair videos I've seen on this show that there is supposed to be a CMOS. What gives?

newer laptops with built in battery do not have CMOS
Use F10 to set the date and time as discussed here
be sure the time is set to correct itself automatically in the future
