Hello. I've recently updated my notebook as per the instructions in this thread:

Solved: Re: Hard drive failure - HP Support Community - 7904512

Everything seems to be working normally, except my CPU is running at 100%. Trying to open a browser to watch Netflix is nearly impossible. Even opening Settings through the WIndows Program list takes a few seconds. Everything just slows down.

I'm fully updated through Windows Update and also the HP Support Assistant. Is there anything I am missing? Do I need to purchase a larger memory unit? Is this a common issue with HP and Windows?

I'm happy to provide any additional information.

Thanks in advance.

@Shuttersam

What you are seeing is the CPU being used a lot by some program -- and this has nothing to do with the memory you have, especially since you have 8GB of memory.  So, increasing this to 16GB or more is not going to help.

You need to find out what is using the CPU.

Open Task Manger, Processes Tab, click on the CPU heading to sort the rows.  Then look at what is using the CPU.

It is whatever task I have open. It could be  browser or even a folder. CPU shoots up to 100%. It isn’t any one particular program.

Is there a particular test I could run which targets this kind of problem?
