When I either plug in or unplug the AC adapter, the temperature of the CPU immediately rises to 85C (though the CPU remains idle), the fans start running really hard and the computer can't shut down normally (it only responds to holding the power button for five seconds). After shutting it down like this, it can only restart after a hard reset (unplug AC adapter then hold power button for 15 seconds).

 

The interesting thing is that this happens both when connecting the AC adapter *and* when unplugging it, i.e. when there is a change of power source. If the AC adapter is plugged in when booting the computer, there are no issues and the computer runs smoothly for as long as needed—but the moment you disconnect the adapter, the issue reoccurs.

I've updated every driver, BIOS, firmware, changed every BIOS parameter I can think of and tried this on multiple operating systems: I even installed a Linux dual-boot to see if I could figure out what this was about, and the problem occurs in exactly the same way there (though the installation works perfectly otherwise).

 

I am tagging this as a hardware issue, since it's OS independent. Any help at this point would be appreciated!
