Common problems for Battery

HP ENVY Laptop 13-ah00xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The said laptop supports PD 3.0.

This question is being asked because I am looking at a few mobile phones to buy and if the laptop does charge by 30W (Even though slower since the default charger is 65W barrel), It would determine which phone I will buy.

So in-effect all I want to know is if Envy ah0043tx will charge using a 30 Watts (5V-6A) charger or not.

No, you can't use 30 Watts (5V-6A) USB Type - C charger to charge your machine. It does not have enough juice (power).

Thank you for such a prompt reply,

I would like you to take a look at the discussion done in the following thread:

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Can-I-charge-my-HP-Envy-with-U...

Where the user @langibs claims to be able to charge his laptop(ah-0xxx) with a 29Watts Type-C charger.

Since his claims could be erroneous, I wanted an expert opinion and hence posted this post.

Expert @Huffer seemed to agree to the point that the laptop could in fact charge using a Type-C port.

I understand that the laptop by default has a 65 W barrel charger. BUT:

  • My laptop charges quite quickly with the 65watt charger since it has a reasonably small battery.
  • But it also heats up quite a bit while charging owing to its small metal form factor. This heat is noticeable while using the laptop.

I was hoping that if it did charge with a 30 Watt(5V-6A) Type-C Charger, I would be able to mitigate the heating effects while still being able to charge my laptop albeit slower. I do not mind if the charger takes more than twice the amount of time to charge the laptop in comparison to the default charger.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I am hoping that @Huffer and @Banhien would come to a consensus and resolve the issue.
