Hi I'm writing here since I can't seem to find a clear answer to my question.
My ZBook Studio G3 is all original with the samsung mzvpv512hdgl-000h1 hard drive which is of an M.2 type (PCI Express 3.0 x4 (NVMe)).
I wonder if my chipset would allow me to add a drive like the WD Green M.2 Sata which has a formfactor of 2280 as a second disc since I have one free slot.
Any help would be apprechiated, Thanks in advance.

I have the Zbook 15 G3 which is a sister model not exactly the same and mine does have a pair of 2280 form factor M.2 slots and then also a 2.5 inch SATA drive bay.
The Studio G3 is a slightly different beast. No 2.5 inch drive bay. Here is what it looks like inside:
primary M.2 = red circle secondary = green square
The primary M.2 SSD runs above and parallel to the battery. The secondary is right under the primary M.2 SSD and runs from below the second disk at right angles. You need the second SSD bracket to have a place to screw in the mounting screw. See the kit shown at page 20 of the Manual.
You will find a cover over the bay where the second M.2 SSD can be installed. And yes you can mix a SATA M.2 with the original PCIe/NVME M.2 and it will work fine.
Post back with any other questions and please accept as solution if its the info you needed.

Hi Huffer,
Thank you so much! You pointed me in the right direction.
I did chose a NVMe after all. After trying to install Ubuntu alongside WIndows and time and again failing in the partitioning step going with two different discs feels better. I read somewhere that HP has some kind of of partitioning limitation. Anyway, I'll mark you answer your as a solution. Thanks again!
