HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Background:

>My laptop comes with 1 TB (7200 rpm) 9.5 mm mechanical HDD. My laptop supports M.2 PCIe SSD and M.2 SATA SSD.

Question:

>Along with my current 1TB HDD, I wish to install 1 TB PCIe NVMe [specifically NVMe Internal SSD - Gen 3 x 4 PCIe M.2 2280, 3D NAND]. Can I install it in my HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx laptop while making my current HDD as a secondary drive?

Problem:

>The HP Maintenance and Service Guide downloaded for my laptop suggests the following under the hard drive heading:

Single hard drive configurations:

>2-TB, 5400 rpm, 9.5 mm/7.2 mm or 1-TB, 7200 rpm, 9.5 mm

PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 solid-state drive:

>256 GB

Dual storage configurations:

256 GB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 SSD + 1 TB (7200 rpm) 9.5 mm

128 GB SATA Value SSD + 1 TB (7200 rpm) 9.5 mm

128 GB SATA Value SSD + 2 TB (5400 rpm) 9.5 mm/7.2 mm

128 GB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 SSD + 1 TB (7200 rpm) 9.5 mm

128 GB PCIe NVMe TLC M.2 SSD + 2 TB (5400 rpm) 9.5 mm/7.2 mm

I am reluctant to install this new 1TB PCIe drive as I am not sure it will be supported by the motherboard. I'd appreciate if someone who is knowledgeable within this domain can respond to this.

>>>> 2. Existing drive is only HDD. I don't understand why would HP mention only 256gb PCIe NVMe + 1TB HDD in the Laptop Manual and Guide.

That is an option for pre-configurated machines, you can install more if you wish. 2TB is a normall single sided (physically) over 2TB would be too thick.

>>>> 3. Can I install specifically this M.2 NVMe SSD internally?

Your link is getting nowhere, but Crucial p2 is ok, it is an older generation.

What is your HP Pavilion Power Laptop 15-cb0xx  machine ? You can EXTERNAL connect M.2 NVMe SSD to all machines using USB or USB-C adapters.

What is existing drive on your machine now ? If only HDD, you can add M.2 NVMe SSD INTERNALLY  single sided 2280 format  up to 2TB on your machine using

   Or similar from reputable vendors.

Hi,

To answer your questions:

1. My Machine is HP Pavilion Power - 15-cb000 CTO. I don't wish to carry an external SSD with my laptop.

2. Existing drive is only HDD. I don't understand why would HP mention only 256gb PCIe NVMe + 1TB HDD in the Laptop Manual and Guide.

3. Can I install specifically this M.2 NVMe SSD internally?  <https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p2/ct1000p2ssd8>

Thanks!
