You're very welcome, @Diono

Your notebook DOES NOT support 32 GB of memory.  The max is 2 x 8 GB.

Even if it did support 32 GB of memory, two16 GB DDR3L-1600 would cost a fortune--more than your notebook is worth.

Since you already have 2 x 4 GB of memory installed which is running in dual channel mode, I would buy a 2.5" SSD to boost performance as the first upgrade.

I recommend one of the Western Digital Blue 2.5" SSD's in a capacity that meets your needs and budget.

An alternative model would be one of the Crucal MX500 SSD's.

You can confirm how much memory your notebook can support by doing this...

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator. This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

Hi, @Diono

The information you posted indicates that you have the following model notebook.

HP Pavilion 15-n030sa Notebook PC Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

Below is the link to the service manual...

c04439615.pdf (hp.com)

The supported drive types can be found in chapter 1.

If you want to upgrade to a SSD, you will need to replace the existing 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

Thanks for the reply. I want to boost the performance of this older machine. Would memory be a better option. I currently have 8GB. Maybe upgrade to 32GB?

HP Recommended

You can upgrade your HP Pavilion 15 Laptop to up to a maximum memory capacity of 32GB Memory.

The Laptop has 2 Slots to install memory, already with 8GB standard memory installed. For best Pavilion 15 Laptop performance use the maximum amount of 32GB, fill all the slots with the max allowed memory per slot for your Laptop.
