Hi, I need to know if my laptop can be upgraded, such as adding more RAM and an improved video card. Is this possible?

Also, what are the details on the battery recall?

Glad to have helped, then. Usually we get the question from a user in the position of your son.

What is your laptop? We need the model number. Memory? Good chance unless you are already maxxed which the Model number would tell us. Video? No way. Consumer notebooks (Pavilion) have video soldered to the motherboard. The only way to upgrade video is to get a different motherboard (maybe). Again model number will tell us if it is possible. Some AMD models allow a video upgrade by putting in a better processor. Again, need model number.

Thanks. Part of the problem is there seems to be no way to get my model number or serial number. They're not in the System Information and no labels are on the laptop. I tried to get support from HP customer support but they are completely incompetent, keeping me on hold too long and cutting off the line constantly. They are completely useless. How do I get the information I need?

HP Recommended

Don't need the serial number. Look inside the battery bay if it has a removeable battery. What is the processor and screen size?

HP Recommended

It has a battery bay but I couldn't identify anything.

Processor: Intel Core i5-5200U CPU

Looks like maybe a 15" screen.

Can you help?

Not really without the model number. Can you post a picture of it?

Just to add...

Do you have the HP Support Assistant installed?

Type the words HP Support Assistant in the Search Bar and choose if from the selection.

The Product Number will be in one of two places.  Give Huffer that number.

You have an i5 processor. You have 6 gigs of RAM and a 5400 rpm hard drive (mechanical). You cannot upgrade the processor since it is soldered to the motherboard. You can upgrade RAM to 16 gigs. You can install a solid state drive.

Post back if you have any other questions or want to know how to do any of these or find the necessary parts.
