Hello all,

My HDD is dead, so I am planning to replace it, so my question is:

Can I replace current HDD with a SATA SSD in my HP Notebook - 15t-da000 CTO?

Also, Will I lose my windows license and installers when I replace my HDD?

I am not sure if windows installers are located in an SSD in my laptop

Thanks in advance

You can replace the current defunct drive with a 2.5" SATA3 TLC SSD

You will not lose the activation license as the system board's MAC address is on the Microsoft Licensing servers.

As soon as you go online after installing the OS to a new SSD it will self activate. Don't forget to click on the I will activate later option.

Since yours is a 2016 model year laptop, you will need to create an HP Cloud recover USB flash drive to reinstall the OS and drivers.

You will need a mainstream brand USB flash drive not greater than 64GB storage capacity.

I recommend using a 32 GB flash drive.

You're welcome.

Yes.

I would use one between 1-2 TB in capacity.
