I have a G7-2293nr an Im saddled with an AMD motherboard. This is a 17 monitor sized laptop but the mobo looks like it came out of a 15! It looks to be a standard mobo that is just fitted into a larger 17 chassis, plenty of room. If this is the case I would like to upgrade to an I7 model motherboard from a 15" model. They look to have the same footprint and jack locations. My battery is centrally located on bottom while the 15" models have the battery offset to the side. Its the same location on the mobo but they added 2 inches to the 17 chassis. Is it possible to put an I7 mobo into a 17" chassis?

On model series where HP makes a 17 inch and 15 inch version like in your case there is a G6 series and then a G7 series the motherboards are going to be about the same size. A motherboard only needs to be so big to do what it needs to do. It is possible in some cases to swap in an Intel motherboard to the chassis of a laptop that came with an AMD. I have done it several times on the older DV6000 series models that had the video chip issues like 10 years ago. However, in that case, the Intel and AMD models shared a common Manual and you could see the motherboards were the same shape and had the same mounting points. Not so clear with yours. The Service Manual only covers AMD models so if you want to go swapping motherboards you are going to be flying blind and no one can give you assurance it will work and fit. All the ports and all the peripheral parts have to line up. The on-off switch has to be connected to the motherboard in the same place with the same attachment. Etc. etc.

Your processor is an A6 and you could easily upgrade to an AMD A10 and that would perhaps meet your needs much better and with better certainty.
