HP ENVY x360 - 15m-bp112dx

I've been using this laptop for the past five years now and would like to upgrade the internals of this device. My model has a 1TB HDD, but is it possible to replace it with an M.2 NVME of the same storage size? Alternatively, could I add a 1TB SSD of this kind into an M.2 slot and ditch the HDD (after transferring the two)? Also, the maximum amount of memory I can store is 16GB. There is another slot available for RAM—according to Task Manager—that I wish to use by installing another 16GB of RAM. Can this work for a total of 32GB of RAM? The Intel Core i7 8th Gen processor supports the increased size, but I'm not sure if going over the max will break something. If so, could I instead replace the single 16GB card with two 8GB cards of RAM for dual channel efficiency at a faster speed of 3,200 MHz or 4,800 MHz? Thank you.Screenshot 2023-07-10 161700.pngScreenshot 2023-07-10 162658.png

You can't upgrade your RAM and HDD (just kidding), you can upgrade RAM and HDD of your computer. The specs of your machine is

          https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c05803125

  1. RAM: It has  16 GB DDR4-2133 SDRAM (2 x 8 GB) now (please don't ask me why it only has 8GB as shown on your attached image). You can upgrade to 16GB using compatible RAM by adding SAME 8GB to slot 2 or using compatible RAM such as  https://www.crucial.com/memory/ddr4/ct8g4sfs824a/ct11942908   (RAM will run at 2133MHz). It should work with 32GB but I don't know why Crucial does not have compatible kit. (https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp-compaq/envy-x360-15m-bp112dx)
  2. STORAGE: It has 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA now. Yes, you can add 1TB or 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD to your machine using compatible drive such as https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p3-plus/ct2000p3pssd8/ct21636915

Regards.

Hi, @Rinzler_

See chapter 1 of the service manual for the memory and SSD upgrade info.

HP ENVY x360 15m Convertible PC Maintenance and Service GuideIMPORTANT! This document is intended fo...

The max memory according to the manual is 2 x 8 GB.

You can do this to see if you can install 2 x 16 GB of memory:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

This should be the compatible 16 GB memory chip for your notebook:

Crucial 16GB DDR4-2400 SODIMM | CT16G4SFD824A | Crucial.com

SSD:

HP offered NVMe SSD's up to 512 GB in storage capacity in the model series.

That is normally just what HP offered in the model series, not the maximum capacity supported.

I can't think of any reason why a 1 TB NVMe SSD wouldn't work, but I cannot 100% guarantee that it will.

The Samsung 980 PCIe 3.0 1 TB NVMe SSD would be a good option for your notebook, and you can use the free Samsung cloning software if you don't want to clean install W11 or use the HP cloud recovery tool to reinstall the original factory image.
