Is it even possible to upgrade my notebook's CPU which has an extreme chronic overheating problem?
It's a dm1-4310nr model of the Pavilion series. The socket type is FT1 BGA. Right now it's running a dual-core, dual-thread CPU from AMD that's overheating like mad.
I installed Speccy on the computer just to get all this info and to see how how it's actually running, and just starting off, with virtually no load on it, it's running at 180. But it quickly heats up red-hot beyond that, and when I opened it up to look at the condition of the fan and the heat sink's copper tubing, the copper fins are just charred black.
This thing desperately needs a better CPU. I'm wondering if it's even possible to upgrade it and, if so, if there's even such a thing as a quad-core, eight-thread CPU for this socket.
Any real help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,
Buy a new machine would be cheaper.

Welcome to HP Support Forum. Unfortunately you can't change its CPU alone, you also need to change the system board (or motherboard). You can select one from the following list (the last 10 characters: part number).
- AMD E2-2000 processor and with WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 702958-001
- AMD E2-2000 processor and with WWAN capability that run Windows 8 Standard (includes replacement thermal material) 702958-501
- AMD E2-2000 X slot processor and with WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 702959-001
- AMD E2-2000 X slot processor and with WWAN capability that run Windows 8 Standard (includes replacement thermal material) 702959-501
- AMD E1-1500 processor and with WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 702960-001
- AMD E1-1500 processor and with WWAN capability that run Windows 8 Standard (includes replacement thermal material) 702960-501
- AMD E2-1800 processor and with WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 696668-001
- AMD E450 processor and with WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 659512-001
- AMD E300 processor and with WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 659510-001
- AMD E2-1800 X slot processor and with WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 683532-001
- AMD E2-1800 X slot processor and with WWAN capability that run Windows 8 Standard (includes replacement thermal material) 683532-501
- AMD E450 processor but not WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 659511-001
- AMD E300 processor but not WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 659509-001
- AMD E2-1800 processor but not WWAN capability (includes replacement thermal material) 683533-001

I'm wondering if the overheating might not be due to the CPU being an AMD, because I've heard not-so-great things about the reliability of their chips, compared to Intel's. Is it possible to get a replacement motherboard set that has an Intel instead?
