I am trying to upgrade the memory in my 17-ca0010na. I went to the Mr Memory site and they said I could fit 2 x 8GB DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz 260-pin SODIMM. I received the memory and opened my laptop but I can only find 1 slot. Is it possible to put a single 16GB DDR4 PC4-19200 2400MHz 260-pin SODIMM in my laptop?
Many thanks

Hi:
Chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max memory is 1 x 8 GB.
Maintenance and Service Guide HP 17 Laptop PC
Trying to install a 16 GB memory chip in the single slot would be an experiment on your part.
You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can actually support.
1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.
This will open the command prompt.
2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.
There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.
The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.
If it reports 32 GB (that would mean it is counting the dummy slot as active), a 16 GB memory chip may work.
If it reports 16 GB with 2 slots, then your notebook's single slot is only going to support the 8 GB memory chip.

Hi Paul
Thank you for the reply.
I found the manual at work and had to wait till I got home to check the processor.
I have an A6-9225 so I will just be going with the single 8Gb
Many thanks for confirming what I have and what to do.
Much appreciated
Best Regards
Angus
