Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can I use that USB Docking Station POD on my 15DY1051WM laptop as there are no backplane plug-in or connections on bottom of laptop that are typically positioned in order to plug in to a docking station.   I was wondering if this would work:   https://www.server2hardware.com/5tw10aa-hewlett-packard-usb-c-dock.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjw18WKBhCUARIsAF...

I should note that this is Windows 10 Home version, 64-bit, so don't know it that in any way restricts whether it is capable of running two monitors.

It's for my wife's laptop and she wanted to get two displays up and running for work.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

The USB port on your machine supports data transfer only, so it can not be used directly for video output.

The best idea if you need two screens, is to hook up one to the HDMI port and then get a USB to HDMI (or displayport) converter. It is not just a cable as it will include a graphics chip to convert the signal (DiplayLink)

Example

Hope it helps,

David

David - thanks for that informative reply.  Now, will this allow me to have two separate screens - each with some portion of my desktop?  That's really what I need to get to.  Have one application, say Excel on the laptop screen, and then on the second display maybe a website that I'm pulling data from, to enter in to the Excel.

Thanks

Dave
