I can not find a m.2 ssd for my elitebook 840 (intel i5) G1. I know it takes a 2242 card. It has room for 1 notch so B & M keys are out. The M key looks like mine accept my M key has 4 pins and all I can find are 5 pin M key ssd's. Also it does not apear anyone sells m.2 ssd (2242) with a M key with only 4 pins (I count 5 with products online). Please HELP!!!

There has never been a 4 contact M.2.

The M.2 (NGFF) SSD drives on the following web documents are compatible with your notebook

@REO51ST is absolutely correct.  five pins, not four.

B key edge conectors for SSD have 6 pins and M keyed edge connectors have 5 pins .  B and M keyed connectors  have 6 and 5 pins respectively.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2

I received responses fro the HP Community that suggested I purchase a m.2 SSD with B & M keys (2 notches) and my HP laptop has a M key (1 notch). I also received some links to 2280 SSD cards (80mm) and my laptop takes 2242 (42mm).

All the Hp website says is "120GB M.2 (NGFF) Solid State Drive".

Does this also indicate the largest size is 120GB? It lists 2.5" SSD and HDD drives and lists a few different sizes but only one m.2 SSD card size.

I cannot find 2242 size with M key anywhere (loads of 2242 B & M key).

So 2 quetions, where can I find m.2 SSD 2242 (hp does not even list it in thier parts catalog)? And does the Elitebook 840 G1 (intel i5, 4th generation with 16GB RAM) accept a larger size m.2 SSD?

Yes you can use one with both "B" and "M" keys.

The one in my picture above had both keys but only one notch in the slot.
