Yes, you can remove the 4 GB chip and replace it with an 8 GB chip.

 

See chapter 1 of the service manual for the memory upgrade info.

I have noticed when viewing Ram from Crucial it says 

Compatible Memory for

HP - Compaq HP 15-r123na i am not to sure this is the same model as 

HP-Compaq HP 15 -K3G02EA#ABU
