HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab254sa
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-ab254sa and I wanted to know how far i can upgrade it in terms of GPU and RAM i have checked and i am currently only using 1 RAM slot so i think it is upgradable in that aspect but im not too sure as to how far i can upgrade the GPU. The systm manual states "Switchable discrete graphics" and NVIDIA N16S-GT (GeForce 940M) is that the limit or can i go higher if i am able to upgrade it. And finally where can i get the parts to upgrade it.

Many thanks

Emmanuel ^^

Hi,

You can not upgrade the graphics card as it is integrated on the motherboard together with the graphics subsystem (soldered)

You would need to replace the motherboard and heatsink to be able to use discrete dedicated graphics. It would cost a lot. On page 62 of service manual, you can see various system boards.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04642845

Max RAM is 16GB of DDR3L 1600MHz RAM (2x8GB)

Two slots and at the moment you have one 8GB module. You can buy from your preferred brand such as Crucial, Samsung ...

Example:

https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/pavilion-15-ab254sa#MEMORYFilters

On page 55 of service manual, you can see how to upgrade RAM.

You could also replace the hard drive with a 2.5" SATA3 SSD for noticeable performance gain in everyday use.

Hope it helps,

David
