Product: 14-an009na (product #X3M02EA)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My daughter has a 14-an009na (Energy Star) laptop with 4gb of RAM which I would like to upgrade. I can't find any information on the HP site that will confirm it can even be upgraded, except for a link to a service guide which lists a p/n for an 8gb module. This of course, may not even apply to this specific model, and I'd hate to order RAM I can't use. Can anyone tell me if this laptop will utilize 8gb?

Here is the Service Manual:

 

Manual

 

The Manual is a bit hard to decipher but bottom line there is a memory slot. The Manual seems to suggest there are 2 slots but on the AMD E-series processors I am pretty sure its a single slot. 

 

Pages 30-38 show the procedure. Just remove the back cover. You may want to open it before buying memory because if there are 2 slots you can get by with a 4 gig module but if its a single slot you need an 8 gig module. Maximum size of a single module is 8 gigs so max overall is either 8 or 16 gigs. I don't think I would invest in 16 gigs for that laptop but upgrading to 8 gigs should assist the performance which I am sure your daughter has told you can use all the help it can get. 

 

You may even want to consider installing a solid state drive in lieu of the slow 5400 rpm mechanical drive as prices on SSDs have plummeted this holiday season.

Thanks. Yes, it defintely has a single memory module slot (I had opened it early today). I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be wasting time & money putting 8gbs of RAM in it if it would only read 4gb. But if you're certain I can use the 8gb I'll be happy to accept that.

 

I'll consider replacing the drive, but I want to try upgrading the RAM first. A drive might be a birthday present this Sping.
