Spectre x360 13-4102dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I'm trying to enable bitlocker/device encryption on my Spectre x360 13-4102dx, it says that there are the following errors with the security processor:

- Device health attestation isn't supported on this device.

- A firmware update is needed for your security processor (TPM).

I'm assuming that the latter issue is the cause of the former, but I'm new to TPM...

The TPM chip in my laptop is an Infineon 4.40 (TPM 1.2).

I've looked through many threads here, but haven't found an update that can be installed on my device.  Any clues?

OK, I have things working.

First, I was able to get rid of the "Device health attestation isn't supported on this device" error by hitting the "Clear TPM" button.  That still didn't give me the ability to encrypt the drive, though.

After some digging, I found that BitLocker isn't supported on Windows 10 Home (which is what I have) - it only supports Device Encryption.  The reason that Device Encryption wasn't showing up is that it requires TPM 2.0, but the Spectre x360 13-4102dx only has a TPM 1.2 chip.  Since BitLocker can work with TPM 1.2, the solution was to upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro, which does have BitLocker support.

I still see an error that the TPM firmware needs to be updated, but it doesn't seem to stand in the way of encrypting the drive with BitLocker.

@jeffstep

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Please check Device Manager, does it have TPM hardware? Security device
  • Do you have Bit Locker encryption key code? Computers encrypted with BitLocker or BitLocker Automatic Device Encryption might require a recovery key.

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: (do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating)

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Echo_Lake, thanks for responding.  The device does have TPM hardware - as I said in my original question, it show that there is an Infineon 4.40 (TPM 1.2) chip present.  The device security page in settings shows two errors with it:

- Device health attestation isn't supported on this device.

- A firmware update is needed for your security processor (TPM).

I don't see anything on the HP pages for an update to the firmware for my laptop - I tried updates for a few Spectres that are on the pages, but they all said that the device didn't match the SPK requirements.  I went to Infineon's site as well, but they just point back to the OEM support pages.

There's no BitLocker recovery key involved because I can't use BitLocker - I'm assuming that the reason is the above errors.

Thanks,

Oh, and I have checked HP Support Assistant for updates, and there are none for the device.
