Hi guys,
I have a HP EliteBook Folio 1040 G2 that came with 8GB of RAM.
Can I upgrade this laptop to 16GB RAM?
The reason I am asking is that this model supposedly supports 16GB of RAM, but a service manual I found
here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04551595
On page 40 (PDF page 50/127) it says on the top "Memory conƭguration is selected when the computer is ordered and is not upgradeable. "
Is it some kind of EFI lockdown on the laptop so that memory cannot be upgraded?
Thanks,
Will

Hi, Will:
Looks like 8 GB is the max to me according to Chapter 1, page 1 of the service manual you posted.
One memory module slot + integrated memory Memory configuration is selected when the computer is ordered and is not upgradeable. 4-GB memory integrated into system board DDR3L PC3L-12800-(1600 MHz) dual channel support NOTE:DDR3 memory is not supported. Only DDR3L memory is supported. Supports up to 8-GB of system RAM in the following configurations:

Chapter 5, page 40 states the same thing, and the parts list in chapter 3, page 16, item 13, only shows one memory module.

Not according to the manual.
4 integrated + 4 in the slot.
Now if you want to try an 8 GB DDR3L module in there, that's up to you, if you have one handy that you can experiment with.
The chipset can handle 16 GB, but can the slot?
I certainly wouldn't waste $50 bucks to find out.
If it does work then you will have 12 GB running in SDR mode instead of 8 GB running in DDR mode.
I don't know what would be better...more speed or more capacity.

Please keep in mind the memory used in the SIM Socket is single sided memory. If you attempt to replace the factory installed memory with double sided memory the bottom of the unit will not close properly and you can damage the unit.
