I am planning on getting the new ENVY 17t laptop. However, I would like to know if it can be cahrged thru its USB C port. If it can be charged, will the USB C chargers that HP sells work on it? I got two different answers from HP Sales regarding the USB C charger. One said it would charge but at a slower pace. The other rep said it won't charge. Which is the right answer?

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂
As I understand you need information on using the USB Type-C port for charging the laptop.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Did you check if the PC supports thunderbolt technology?
Also did you know that HP doesn't sell any chargers for notebooks as off yet?
While you respond to that, I went through generic product specifications of HP Envy 17T and found that there is no Thunderbolt port available on your PC,
I'm afraid it may not work without a thunderbolt compatible port.

I hope this information helps,
Do get back to me as I have a few more tricks up my sleeve,

Thanks for the reply. Here is the link to the adapter i was thinking of getting if i end up getting the envy 17t laptop.
http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/hp-usb-c-travel-power-adapter-65w
You're right that it doesn't support thunderbolt because i just checked the spec sheet again. So 2 out of 3 says that it can't be charged via USB C. I guess it can't be charged that way. That's a huge disappointment as I was really planing on getting this laptop. It was between this and the inspiron 7577. Although the HP had an older gpu, i was still going to go for it because of the price hp offers right now. However, the lack of a capability to charge via USB C port has tilted it the inspiron's way.
So the adapter on that link can only be used on HP laptops that support TB3? Also, if a laptop has TB3 support, does it automatically mean that it can be charged via USB C?
Thanks for the help!

Thank you for responding,
It's great to have you back 😉
There are quite a few other models that support the TB3 and you could check them out,
using the HPshopping website: Click here to access it.
That said, you are right about USB Type-C TB3 support for charging & alternate display, etc...however, as off now HP doesn't support charging via a power bank, in case you wanted to set that up, just an FYI.
I hope my information was helpful.

Yes, that should work just fine,
I recommend you check with the USB-TYPE C specifications article I had sent earlier as it contains the detailed answer to your query.
