To best describe my usual emotional reaction to Support, I'll quote Madeline Kahn, "it-it- the f - it -flam - flames. Flames, on the side of my face, breathing-breathl- heaving breaths. Heaving breaths... Heathing..."

Just... wow.

And I'm not even counting the noisless SSD.

Yeah, I don't know what to do about it. They never called either. I guess I'll put a note in the box about the actual problems? It's completely insane.

The note might help. If they bother to read it. Worth a try, anyway.

This just drives me crazy. I've had so much miscommunication with support I gave up all together.

And to think, a month ago, I though myself so much more clever than all those saps who didn't buy a "premium" ultra book.

I have solved the annoying click/pop noise upon applying pressure to the front corners! This involves clear scotch tape and a torx screwdriver, and isn't dangerous or difficult. First, take off the back plate by taking care of those torx screws. Then apply clear scotch tape around both front corners (those opposite the hing side) of the plate you removed. This provides damping against the literal metal-on-metal popping/scraping (there is no rubber or any kind of protective material between the chassis and the removable bottom plate, which explains why so many x360s have this issue). Then just screw the plate back in and voila. I know, I know, the tape looks a tad weird but you could probably trim it off and it's on the bottom of the laptop so it's not too big of a deal. The satisfaction of not having constant popping noises while resting your hands on the chassis is well worth it.

Hi!

Did you solve your problem?
I have a x360 and it has the same issue, the X360 emits a rather loud clicking or popping sound anytime it is moved by or pressure is applied to the right front corner

Thank you

@luc76

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. 🙂

I understand that you have an HP x360 series laptop. I read that there is a loud clicking or popping sound anytime it is moved by or pressure is applied to the right front corner.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Is your laptop still under the factory warranty? The 1 year factory warranty starts from the date of purchase.
  • This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l.

This seems like a laptop chassis mechanical sound. I suggest you to contact our HP phone support to explore the hardware service options for the laptop.

Please feel free to let me know if you have any further questions. Cheers! 🙂

Hi Nstommel,

Thanks for your helpful post. I opened up the back of the laptop. Could you please point out the place where you put the scotch tape on the below picture? I tried couple places but didn't work.

Thanks again.
