I want to change the video card, because the colors are bad, kind of grayish and fading. The pc has an Intel integrated video card. How do you change it with a standard video card?

I will appreciate any advice.

Thank you,

Yabuco

You actually have 4 expansion slots: 1 x PCIe x16 and 3 x PCIe x1 slots.

If you put a video card in the x16 slot it will automatically turn off the onboard video.

*Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed.
  • Either integrated graphics or the PCI Express x16 slot are usable at one time; they are not usable concurrently.
  • Use of both the DVI and the VGA ports at the same time is supported.

Turn the computer off, stick in the video card (be sure to hook up any power leads it may need) and reboot. You need to have the driver available to load on that first boot by either having downloaded it to the hard drive or have a CD or thumb drive with the driver available. Load the driver, likely a reboot is needed, check your display resolution and you are good to go.

You have a 300w power supply and whether that is enough or not depends on the video card. None of the optional upgrade cards listed in the Manual would need a bigger power supply. You are not going to be able to use the latest video cards because those will be UEFI cards and you need a legacy boot card. Again, any of the listed ones would work.

If you are just trying to get a good image on the monitor and are not trying to do gaming, any of those cards is fine. Have you tried the monitor with another computer just to be sure the problem is the video and not the monitor?

How about the cable?

The listed video cards are pretty inexpensive now:

Thank you for the input. One thing with this unit is that it only has one expansion slot, that's all I need anyway.  How do I disable the integrated video card in the mother board and enable the new video card? I read somewhere that I might need to upgrade the power supply, depending on the video card.

Thank you again for any additional inputs.

Hello Chimney_83,

Ref: HP PC P6 series, product no. B3F79AVHAB-A

Haven't heard from you. I posted the product number on my last reply for the HP P6 series, Integrated video card. Need to know if I need to disable the video integrated card before installing the new video card in the existen expansion slot.

I haven't purchased any video card yet, I want to be certainthat what I am doing is correct and that it will work.

Thank you again for your response.

Thank you   Provost

Just to let you know that this HP PC Pavilion 6 series only has one empty Expansion slot, the other two are full with two memory banks, 4 mb each.  The product no. is B3F79AVHAB-A. Do I have to connect any cable from the power supply to the video card that I will purchase? I don't see any extra cable leads on the power supply. I am counting that the card I get doesn't need external power from the P S.

By the way, the monitor is brand new and I had been using it with my Dell PC.

Thank you for all your Help.

If it needs an extra power lead you would have to use a Y-splitter to run the power off an existing cable from the PSU. I think all of the cards I listed above do not require a power lead...aka bus powered.

So your motherboard deos not look like the one in the picture I posted? Hmmm. Odd.

Thank you for all your good inputs. Yes, it is kind of weird that it only has and extra  expansion slot in addition to the other two for the memories bank. I ordered the XFX Force AMD Radeon HD 5450 IGB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 video graphic card. Will let you know If it works after I receive it and install it.

Thank you and keep up the good work.
