My hp envy 17 has stopped charging. I have replaced the battery and initially it seemed to work indicating 100% charge. I unplugged to run the battery down and after around 30 minutes the laptop closed down. Now I have a constant flashing white light and major problems booting up.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Perform a Hard Reset

A hard reset can help in resolving hardware-related issues by discharging the capacitors that store energy.

  1. Turn off the laptop: Disconnect any external devices and unplug the AC adapter.
  2. Remove the Battery: (If the battery is removable). Skip this step if your battery is non-removable.
  3. Press and Hold the Power Button: Hold it for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual electrical charge.
  4. Reconnect the Battery and Power Adapter.
  5. Power On the Laptop: Turn on the laptop and check if the issue persists.

Verify AC Adapter Functionality

Ensure that your AC adapter is functioning properly.

  1. Check the AC Adapter: Make sure the power cord is firmly connected to the adapter and the wall outlet.
  2. Inspect for Damage: Check for any damage to the power cord or adapter. If any part is damaged, it might need to be replaced.
  3. Test the Adapter: If possible, test using another compatible HP adapter to check if the adapter is at fault.

Check Battery Connection and Health

Make sure the battery is correctly installed and in good condition.

  1. Power Off the Laptop and unplug from the power source.
  2. Remove and Reinsert the Battery: (Skip if the battery is non-removable).
  3. Perform BIOS Battery Test:
    • Power on the laptop and immediately press the Esc key continuously until the Startup Menu opens.
    • Press the F2 key to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
    • Click Component Tests.
    • Select Power and then Battery to run the battery check.

Update BIOS and Battery Drivers

An outdated BIOS or battery drivers could cause charging issues.

Update BIOS:

Update Battery Drivers:

  • Right-click on the Start menu and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Batteries section.
  • Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and Uninstall.
  • Restart your laptop, and Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

Check for AC Adapter and Battery Issues

  • Blinking white charge light typically indicates an issue with the battery or charging circuit.
  • With AC adapter plugged in:
    • A blinking white light without the AC adapter could indicate a battery connection issue.
  • Power Adapter LED:
    • If the power adapter LED is off or blinking, the AC adapter might not be providing power.

I hope this helps.
