Hi @Sk054,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating this is. Your HP OMEN should charge seamlessly whether it’s on or off. When it only charges while powered off and stops as soon as you press the power button, it usually points to a power delivery or motherboard-level issue, often related to the DC-in circuit, battery management system, or BIOS settings.
Troubleshooting Steps
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- Disconnect the charger and battery (if removable).
- Press and hold the power button for 15–20 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and charger, then try powering on.
2. Check Adapter and Port
- Ensure you’re using the original HP adapter.
- Inspect the charging port for dust or damage.
- If possible, test with another HP adapter of the same wattage.
3. Update BIOS and Drivers
- If the laptop powers on briefly, update BIOS and chipset drivers: 👉 Official HP® Support
4. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
- Restart → Press Esc repeatedly → F2 → Run Battery and AC Adapter Tests.
- If tests pass but the issue persists, it’s likely a board-level fault.
5. Disable Fast Boot / Hybrid Sleep
- In BIOS, disable Fast Boot and Hybrid Sleep.
- Sometimes these interfere with power state transitions.
If Still Charging Only When Off
This behavior usually means:
- Faulty DC-in power circuit
- Embedded Controller (EC) firmware issue
- Or motherboard failure
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
