Hi,
I would like to know, if there is any knowledge on how Smart pin on charger cable works (voltage, protocols, etc.). I would like to make power adapter using 200W step up converter, to boost car's 12V to 19.5V that is then used by laptop. I often use my laptop in a car where now only solution is using inefficient inverter to produce 230V and then connect existing charger to it. 2 steps of inefficiency that I would like to skip.
I saw some solutions on internet where they connect resistor between Ve+ and Smart pin, or make voltage voltage divider, where the voltage on Smart pin determines power rating of power supply. But I haven't found any configuration for 150W power supply, that came with my laptop.
I'm electrical engineer by profession and could probe Smart pin with oscilloscope to determine what's going on and then replicate that with my power supply, but if there is any knowledge about Smart pin function and how to distribute information to laptop to use 150W, I would appreciate your reply.
Another option could be USB C PD, but to my knowledge there is 100W limit and I'm not sure if my laptop HP Zbook 15 G4 supports USB C (thunderbolt) charging.

I used to carry 2 notebooks (one for work), few cameras and video camera for weekend trips all I need was a 650W which is similar to the following one
