My hp chromebook x360 randomly stopped charging. I’ve tried a lot of recommended things such as using a different charger or resetting it. Nothing works, i can’t get a new charging port or get it fixed because where i am they charge too much.. I don’t understand why it stopped working randomly. I can’t really do much because it’s dead and won’t charge.

Hi @swoopy4,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I understand how frustrating it is when your HP Chromebook x360 stops charging unexpectedly, especially when it is completely discharged.

A Chromebook can stop charging due to a deeply discharged battery, a temporary power controller issue, or debris preventing the USB-C charger from making proper contact.

Please try the following:

  1. Leave the charger connected for 12–24 hours.

If the battery has entered a deep discharge protection state, it may require several hours of slow charging before any charging light or power response appears.

  2. Try the other USB-C port (if your model has two).

Some HP Chromebook x360 models support charging through more than one USB-C port, while others may have a preferred charging port.

  3. Inspect the USB-C port for lint or debris.

Use a non-conductive wooden or plastic toothpick to gently remove any packed lint that could prevent the charger from connecting properly.

  4. Perform an Embedded Controller (EC) reset.

    • Disconnect the charger.

    • Press and hold Refresh + Power for 10–15 seconds.

    • Release the keys, reconnect the original HP USB-C charger, and check if the charging LED turns on.

If the Chromebook still shows no charging light or response after these steps, the issue is likely related to the USB-C charging circuit, battery, or system board and may require hardware service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I'm an HP Employee.
